Why are Black people still Christian?
If God exists, why does he allow Black people to suffer the way that they do. For starters, Christianity has been used a brutal tool of oppression against Black folks for as long as this country has existed. Outside of the US, Christianity and the Bible motivated colonizers to commit some of the worst atrocities the planet has ever seen.
The track record of this religion is clear and it isn’t looking great. So why did Black people, when surveyed by the Pew Research Center, identify as Christians at nearly 80%? Significantly more than their non-Black peers.
That’s what I want to talk about in this video. I spoke to a Black woman pastor who sees herself represented in Jesus as well as a Black professor who identifies as atheist and sees no evidence of a God interested in the oppressed.” At the end, I wrestle with my own journey around faith. I hope you enjoy

Why is the MLB so white?
Переглядів 45 тис.7 місяців тому
Demographics in the MLB are... interesting. The NFL and NBA are majority-Black. MLS is one of the most geographically diverse leagues in the world. Compare those leagues to the American baseball and a really interesting question emerges: Why are there so many white people in the MLB? Well, I think I found the answer. This is the beginning of a series I'm making about race, class and American sp...

Did slavery help Black people?

Florida recently updated their state curriculum to teach students that some emancipated Black people gained skilled that they could use for their own benefit after emancipation. So I found some highly-skilled Black folks from the 1800s to see how things panned out for them. #florida #blackhistory #history
The INFAMOUS “Black” McDonald’s commercials

At the tail end of the Civil Rights Movement, brands all over the country started doing something new... and a little strange: they started targeting Black consumers in their ads. Very few did it quite like McDonald's so I wanted to dig into that history and show why I think these ads deserve WAY more attention. Businesses need to make a profit to cover expenses like rent and salaries. High crime rates and violence can deter businesses from setting up shop, which can limit access to amenities like grocery stores. For a neighborhood to attract businesses and amenities, it's important to create a safe and welcoming environment. Reducing violence and moving away from gang lifestyles are crucial steps towards creating such an environment. Investment in property is a key factor in neighborhood development. When neighborhoods become attractive to new residents, including those with higher incomes, it can lead to improvements in local infrastructure and amenities. To benefit from this development, local residents might consider investing in property early, before prices rise. This is a strategy often used by investors who anticipate future growth and improvement in an area. By taking proactive steps, such as reducing violence and encouraging positive investment, communities can influence positive change and benefit from increased investment and amenities.

I appreciate this video. I disagree on several points. While Christianity did appear in Africa before colonialism. It didn’t not reach every part of Africa, vast majority of the diaspora both within and outside Africa was introduced to the religion by white missionaries and that’s how (at least to African Americans) our understanding of Christ is filtered through. Our ancestors who were enslaved did not read the Ethiopian Bible or study Ethiopian ways of understanding the Bible. The African American church were offshoots of its white American counterparts. To claim otherwise is doing some historial revisionist history. Secondly, while the Bible has progressive through lines, it also has conservative and and, in our modern sense, morally wrong and inconsistent parts as well even in the New Testament. Lastly, regardless of the origins of Christianity in the African diaspora . The religion has (through colonialism and anti-blackness both within and external) has wiped away and casted our ancestors indigenous practices as evil and demonic. As well as caused harm to black queer people, black women, and even Black CisHet men and to disregard that is also problematic.

I am black and atheist, black folks around the world should stop deceiving themselves. Take a look at any black neighborhood in America. Take a look at any black country in the world, be honest to ur self. Which one do u see god's influence besides suffering? None, please wake up. There is no proof of a god that has any control of activities on planet earth.

I think your analogy only works if the compromised individual is stuck and has no ability to remove themselves from the situation. Tim Scott could have followed Jeff Flake’s example, or Romney’s, or switch to independent. I’ll offer another explanation that “pure ambition can be self destruction.” Especially with Trump

I think African Christians should be put on the stand and respond to this as well… Edit: And I would Suggest, Joshua Maponga, who is not only a Pan-African, but has tiers to Christianity, is a historian and a very bright UA-camr from South Africa, the second person would be Dr. Patric Lomumba… I dont know his affiliations with respect to religion, but being the most Pan-African man I know, I think he too can weigh in on this perfectly… I guees I am just saying, widden the scope a little bit, and allow the American Blacks to focus on and comment on their history and perspective with respect to their experince and allow the Africans to do the same, that way we get a clearer picture. Also because to say Africans, specifically, or as a subset of black folk, have suffered is bit of a stretch when we have a whole continent to ourselves… our failure to manage it can not only be blamed on God and white people, we have to take responsibility to some extend… but does God hate us? That is a good Question still.

Late to this, but I grew up in a VERY Christian household with my grandmother as a SDA in Mississippi (I KNOW). I've seen and experienced both the best of and the worst of what putting that belief above all else does to people like us which put me on the path to Atheism early on in my life, lol. I never heard about what roles the churches played in uplifting us, so I thank you for showcasing a Christian perspective on it.

This dumbass doesn't know the founding fathers were anti slavery and thus the slaved they had lived essentially free lives living on his properties. Also many were freed. LIAR! (( Sally Cottrell Cole (c1800-1875) lived at Monticello more than fifteen years as personal servant to Jefferson's granddaughter Ellen Randolph. In 1827 Thomas Key, a professor at the University of Virginia, purchased her and took measures to free her. She worked as a seamstress and domestic servant. In 1848 she married a free man of color, Reuben Cole.))

God and Religion isn’t the crime. The way God is taught. The way religion is practiced. Is the crime. Knowing oneself, researching the REAL history of humanity and identifying with one’s own’s experiences on this planet will open the door to one’s inner understanding of who God is and how God relates to you. History. Real history opens the door to understanding. You ask what is real history and where can I begin to research it among all the lies. You live history every day. Stop cluttering your mind with humanities lies. Use your common sense which is your intuition with your intellect. Stop living by the lies of law that humanity forces on us. Wake up. Atheist. Ask yourself the question. Do you not believe there is God? Or do you not believe in God? Most Atheist I’ve encountered. Are Atheist because of the experiences they have in the way religion is practiced. THE GODS. the uncorrupt GODS. because yes there are many Gods. Who are actually Solar beings. We are Lunar beings. Do exist. There are 7 fundamental dimensions. We are in a physical quarantine. Because of our disgusting lunar attributes. The understanding of LIFE in general is way more complicated then what our humanity is taught. Yes I am a 57 year old BLACK vet. That has been all around this planet. All around the world it’s the same song. The entire planet for the most part have no idea why they are here. Sleep my sheep. Sleep. Or wake up. And RESEARCH before drawing a judgment. Yes humanity is quick to judge. Slow to change Stop using academia intellect to understand an issue that is intuitive.

It’s crazy that white people spend millions on makeup and tanning to look darker and in my opinion healthier while black people are using skin creams to bleach their skin also dyes and chemicals to straighten and lighten their hair. Whether you believe it’s god or nature we are all beautiful the way we are brought into this world and we can never learn to love each other until we love ourselves in the amazing image we are created. It’s so true that black peoples have been oppressed by white peoples worldwide both in the past and the present and we have to refuse to accept this as a reasonable human condition going forward, everyone regardless of race has the responsibility to stand up for all human rights everywhere. We must not accept any kind of racism because from the smallest of inhuman actions comes the atrocities suffered throughout time. No act of racism is acceptable ever.

Brother, she doesn’t have the answers. She’s doing the same exploitation. The Most High never appointed a woman to preach. And this whole Christian endocrine is just a money scam. Garrison you said you were a preacher at one time. Why don’t you know when the J was discovered? 500 years after Christ. Everyone’s name in the Bible with J has been changed from their Hebrew names. Please do your research for your fellow so-call Christian’s, and warn them of the danger. Let them know they have to get out of these cults; we have to do our own study and research to clear our minds of the lies, toxic behavior we have been exposed to and practicing for the time we were being bewitched. With much love.

@TboneWTF I believe in God and Jesus, but ultimately it doesn't matter what one believes. What matters is how one behaves towards others. Jesus is an example of how to act with forgiveness and love. He even forgave and loved his tormentors. How does one do that? By recognizing the suffering in others. By recognizing why people make the choices they make and being compassionate. It didn't matter what Jesus believed. How he interacted with others is the way to spiritual growth.
